EVERETT, Washington USA — The software which enables Rocket Vision's new Veri-Fire Digital Launch Controller to run a multi-pad range is now available as a free download on the company's website:

The VFROS software is a complete Windows application which allows the user to graphically lay-out a range on a microcomputer, then control the pads with either keyboard or simple point and click operations. An illustration of the layout and data display is included on the download page.

VFROS begins with the range layout. Using the pulldown menus, you add the appropriate number of pads and then drag and drop them into position on your screen to match the arrangement of your range. Tell VFROS the pad name and the launch rod or rail size installed. VFROS stores the range setup, so you only have to lay the range out once. Next, you specify which Veri-Fire Digital controllers are supporting which pads with a simple identification procedure. Load each pad, entering the rocket's and flier's name and the propulsion being used. Check the igniter status prior to countdown, then launch the rocket. The time and date of the firing is logged.

The control network protocol under which VFROS runs is RODCOM (The Range Operations Data Communication Network). This open, extensible specification is RS-485 protocol compatible, and fully compatible with wireless transmission, so telemetry capability can be added. Up to 250 units can be networked and the address space can hold over 4 billion unique addresses. Rocket Vision will be publishing RODCOM so that other manufacturers and hobbyists can build devices or write software to communicate over RODCOM. Potential devices include hybrid fueling, purge, dump, and ignition sequencers, and weather monitoring stations. RODCOM will be available as a free download from the Rocket Vision website.
