SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, California USA — Shadow Composites, Inc. is proud to announce the successful launch of the first amatuer carbon fiber motor casing in a large rocket motor.
Launch occurred in the Black Rock Desert at BALLS 10, on Saturday, September 30. The joint project was created by Dave Triano of Shadow Composites, Inc., Dr. Frank Kosdon of Kosdon Reloadables, and Dr. Eugene Trubowitz of the ETH in Zuerich, Switzerland. Motor used in the project was a N3500—approximately 17,000 NS in size—of a special propellant formulation developed by Dr. Kosdon. All carbon fiber construction was used for the rocket which achieved not only a successful burn test of the carbon fiber/epoxy casing, but also achieved 40,000 feet altitude and a top speed of mach 2.3, with full, undamaged recovery of the rocket. Pictures of the launch vehicle and details of the launch can be viewed at: www.shadowaero.com/special.htm.
