All *active* Tripoli members who subscribe to HPR Magazine will get both the May and June magazine plus the Tripoli Report in the same envelope via 1st-class or priority mail any day now. The combined postage of the magazines and the Tripoli Report made such a mailing possible.
Members who do not subscribe to HPR will get the TR only via 1st-class mail. This will get the Tripoli Report to everyone with plenty of time to vote. These should all arrive by the end of this week. Some may arrive early next week, depending on your local post offices' speed of delivery. Direct subscribers (non-TRA members) will get both magazines by the manner in which they subscribed. Everyone should have both issues within two or three weeks. Those who paid for them who let their TRA memberships expire in May and June will get both magazines but are not entitled to get a Tripoli Report or to vote. That privilege comes with current active membership in Tripoli at the time of mailing. Memberships expire on the last day of the month printed on your membership card. The magazines will be sent to them by the method they originally paid, either 1st-class or bulk-mail. This will also be their last mailing unless they renew their membership or subscribe direct. MAY HPR: Nothing technical here. This issue contains only LDRS 16-related articles, except for regular features and one poem obviously written under the influence of "Bud" Weiser. Eddie is OK (A report of Eddie's LDRS trauma and how he is doing today. This is also the subject of the editorial.) LDRS XVI Launch Coverage Return to Sender (A LDRS-related personal level 3 project.) Nebraska Heat (Team Nebraska's LDRS project.)
Note: This issue will not be shipped to *some* chain stores. If you do not subscribe direct with HPR or through Tripoli, you may purchase this issue from a hobby store or as a back issue from HPR. There will be a 3 to 4 week delay between these two issues arriving at hobby stores. Most hobby stores will have the May issue in a week or two. The June issue will arrive around the first of August. ***All subscribers will get them together in the same envelope.*** JUNE HPR: This issue features articles relating to NYPOWER in New York, with additional articles to fill out the issue. Low-Tech Lost and Found (A short electronics-for-tracking article.) NYPOWER Launch Coverage Airshow Demonstration (Post NYPOWER demo launch for the locals.) Tar Rockets (An alternative non-regulated fuel, and a history of the Reaction Research Institute [RRI].) The MOSFET H-Bridge Circuit (An electronics article that the author failed to link to rocketry. The editor hopes HP rocketeers will be able to discover a use for it.) Sensory Deprivation-NOT! (Short article describing a person's experience attending the RRS Live Fire event earlier this year, plus a side-bar on the ERS.) It Started With a Kit (We can all relate...) Delamar Launch Coverage (HPR received a really neat photo of a rocket car just after sunset that was used on the contents page.)
TRIPOLI REPORT: Containing the usual stuff, plus election info and ballots. JULY AND AUGUST HPR: The next two issues (July and August) will be handed out at LDRS and then mailed to everyone else the following week. This will totally catch everyone up on the HPR mailings. The July issue will be sent to subscribers ONLY. A few will be over-printed for back issue sales, but no retail sales will be allowed. This will be called the "Crash 'N Burn" issue. If any of you have a favorite "flaming" rocket photo, send it with a brief description to Bruce Kelly by July 15th. Also, this should be a learning tool. If you learned something to improve your skills and safety from your negative experience, please let him know. There is one article that is one of the best articles ever submitted. A year ago January a Delta II exploded shortly after liftoff at the Cape. Tripoli member "Moose" Lavigne was there in the bunker and gives a very personal account of what happened next, as debris fell on the launch complex. For those of you who know Moose, you will find this one story alone worth the price of the issue. If thre is time, HPR will feature a lengthy Little Joe II article in the August issue. If it is too long, it'll run it in two separate issues. Some people have complained about the occasional double issues. They feel it is unfair for those buying the issues at hobby stores to get a double issue for the price of one. That was a very good observation. Therefore, HPR will no longer produce double issues as a means of catching up. HPR hase stated they will make it well worth the wait should they ever get behind again. HPR's first priority is to make sure TRA members and subscribers get what they paid for. HPR has stated no obligations to anyone else, so non-members and non-subscribers are not going to get everything HPR publishes. In the future HPR will be producing a limited edition three volume master work containing all the best articles ever produced. The three volumes will be approximately 300 pages EACH, will contain articles from the first 18-year newsletter (1968-1985), and articles from 1985 to present. It will also have some articles that have never been published in each volume. The first volume is scheduled to be released about a year from now. About 30 to 50 sets will be hard-bound, unless there is a pre-publication demand for more. The rest will be soft cover, perfect bound. This set will be available to everyone, but Tripoli members and subscribers will get a discount - and HPR is trying to save in production costs in hopes of making those discounts substantial. No other discounts will be offered. |
