CARLSBAD, California USA — The blacksky Corporation pioneered pyrotechnic mechanisms for Sport Rocketry with the original Pyrotechnic Release Mechanism (PRM) in 1998. The improved PRM II was released in 1999. blacksky has done it again with the Advanced Retention and Release Mechanism (ARRD).

The ARRD is a totally new design using a Ball, Toggle, and Piston axial design capable of retaining and releasing in excess of 100Kg (220 pounds)! The ARRD is true aerospace quality hardware manufactured on state-of-the-art equipment out of 7075 aluminum and stainless steel. It has been anodized Mil-A-8625 Type III for surface hardness and corrosion resistance.

The ARRD simplifies drogue-to-main parachute deployment by allowing both canopies to exit the same end of the airframe. Other uses include release of strap-on boosters, positive stage retention and separation, payload release, and spring actuated recovery devices. Your imagination and design skills define what the ARRD can do to improve your rocketry projects.

The ARRD is comes with a dual electric match pyrotechnic cartridge. O-ring seals eliminate powder burns on your recovery system. Another feature is the ability to release the Toggle pneumatically with as little as 7 Bar (100 psi). Fully loaded, the ARRD weighs less than 100gm (3.5 oz), is 32mm (1.25 inches) in diameter x 42mm (1.65 inches) tall.
