KINGSTON, Ontario CAN — Kingston Aerospace, the largest Canadian on-line retailer of high power rocketry motors, hardware, components, electronics, apparel and accessories is set to close up shop in early September. Kingston's primary source of business was via their website and as an on-site supplier for most of Eastern Canada's high power launches.
Founded in the Spring of 2001 by Bill Hughes and Ken Bracey, Kingston Aerospace began as the Eastern Canada distributor for blacksky Corporation electronics and hardware. Shortly thereafter, they expanded their inventory to include high power motors, hardware and reload kits, rocket kits and other products, providing Canadian fliers with the items they needed to enjoy the hobby.
In 2005, Hughes purchased Bracey's share of the business and became sole proprietor. Later that year, Hughes launched the Kingston Aerospace web site. Tripoli New Brunswick's "Rage at the Gage" high power launch, scheduled for September 2-3, 2006 in Gagetown, New Brunswick, Canada, will be Kingston's swan song. The business will officially close after the event, although there is rumor about the possibility of selling the company to other Canadians who would keep the business open. Hughes states that increasing demains on his personal time is the reason behind him closing the business. Even brisk Internet sales aren't enough, according to Hughes, "if you cannot ship the orders, then all you do is disappoint your customers." Kingston Aerospace is based in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. http://www.kingstonaerospace.com/ |
