ROCHESTER, New York USA -- At the National Association of Rocketry (NAR) Annual Meet in Rochester, New York on August 10th, Tim Quigg of the Blue Mountain Rocketeers (NAR Section #615) was awarded the NAR 2001 Presidents Award.
Mark Bundick, President of the NAR, recognized the outstanding achievements of Tim Quigg during the past year. These included his meeting the expectations of the Presidents Challenge to expand the educational outreach of rocketry to youth by providing leadership experiences for kids. The Blue Mountain Rocketeers is a NAR section whose officers are all under the age of 18. Their section motto is "Helping Kids Reach For The Stars!" Special community outreach projects this year included a fund-raiser for the Alexis Nordman medical fund; a three-year-old girl mauled by two dogs, as well as NAR Junior Membership Scholarships and Youth Model Rocketry Scholarship programs. Tim also shared his successes and lessons learned with other NAR sections through numerous articles in Extreme Rocketry Magazine, a national rocketry hobby magazine of which he is the Associate Editor, and in Sport Rocketry Magazine, a NAR bi-monthly publication.
The award will be formally presented to Mr. Quigg by George Rachor, NAR Trustee, on Saturday, September 8, 2001 at the launch event known as "Rolling Thunder" held by the Blue Mountain Rocketeers (NAR section #615)near Dayton, Washington.
