BATON ROUGE, Louisianna USA -- Most high power rocket videos offered to hobbyists today offer a ground-eye’s view of the rocket and its flight. Giant Leap Rocketry is offering something that’s really different. It’s called On Board Video and it’s 70 minutes of some very exciting flights. There are M-to-M staged rockets, airstarts, clusters, M drag races, dual deployments, crashes, airframe buckles, deployment failures, and more.
The big difference in this video from many others is that most flights are featured from both ground view and on board video cameras that provides you the vicarious thrill of flight from inside the rocket. You get to hear the roar of the rocket motor, the thump of ejection charges, the jangle of harness hardware, and the whump of deploying chutes. You get to see the gut-wrenching deceleration of 50-pound rockets and ride its near noiseless descent back to earth.
The video has some very humorous moments. One rocket played cat and mouse with its owner. Just as the rocketeer caught up to the rocket and bent to retrieve it, the parachute would inflate and drag the rocket another 20 yards along the desert floor—again and again. The video also includes digital video from the Gates brothers projects.
But the main highlight of the video comes at the end when the full ascent of a NASA Delta Rocket is shown from ground through booster separation, sustainer engine ignition and cutoff, and into the black void of space. It is nothing short of breathtaking!
This video is different and offers an exciting fresh perspective not seen in other professional rocketry videos. A portion of the proceeds of this $19.95 tape (free shipping!) is going to the Tripoli Legal Fund.
This is a great addition to a rocketeer’s video library.
