WORLD WIDE WEB -- The ‘Do-It-Yourself Rocket Motor Kit’ from Stanford Systems has finally been released for purchase by the general public. Originally scheduled for August of this year, the release has been delayed to December due to engineering and legal complications.
The kit allows an amateur rocketry enthusiast to build 6 PVC-cased F-class rocket motors. Unlike other manuals available on the internet, this kit includes all of the hard-to get equipment and chemicals required to complete the finished motors. And at only $99 US it is an inexpensive way to learn the "black art" of DIY motor building.
Included are necessary equipment like constant-temperature propellant melting pot, grain-casting fixtures and all of the required supplies like oxidizer, casings, bulkheads and ablative insulation. Some supplies (i.e. PVC primer/cement, various hand tools) are not included but can easily be obtained at any home/hardware store for minimal extra cost.
According to owner Woody Stanford, the aim of the kit's manual to teach design and constructions principles that can be applied to larger, more powerful motors. Included software runs simulations on not just the included motors but KNO3-based propellant motors of any size.
You can get more information about this kit, or purchase it online, at Stanford Systems' web site at http://www.ssaerospace.com. |
